What is the reason for the season?

Christmas is only days away and everybody in the community seems to be hurrying along to get those last minute gifts for their family and loved ones!  Go into any store and you will see a line of people at the register waiting to check out with a basket full of goodies.  The stress we are under is at a pinnacle for the year as we buy, wrap and worry about more "stuff"...STOP for a moment take a deep breathe and relax!

What is CHRISTMAS all about?  Is it about who gets the largest or most expensive gift under the tree?  Is it about how many lights are on the tree and around the house?  Is it about "stuff" at all?  It seems like christmas has become more about things than about feelings!  What has happened to christmas??

I had lunch with a friend today and he said it best..."My parents already know I love them, my wife already knows I love her, my friends know how I feel, why do I need stuff to show them how much I love them?  Why do I have to just give a gift at Christmas, what a great surprise to get a gift in the middle of the year just because you were thinking of them?"

Let's focus on what Christmas is all about, the feeling of love and joy for one another...Love does not cost a thing and it means so much more than a crappy old gift that gets left in a closet 364 days a year!  I think the reason for the season is to let everyone know they are loved, to spread cheer to those less fortunate and surprise somebody with a random act of kindness...after all people only expect gifts this time of the year.  Why not show them how much you love them through actions rather then price tags...you may be surprised the outcome.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2012!  Let's make next year the healthiest year yet!

Do you need a makeover?

I regularly have an hour commute to and from work, so this gives me time to catch up on new books on tape. I was listening to Dave Ramsey and The Complete Money Makeover to start off fresh in 2012.  I will tell you one thing is true, 5 minutes in to the book and I am loving it!

The reason I love it is he wants ME to take accountability and responsibility for where I am today...don't play the blame game.   He talks about being fit or unfit...financially of course. I realized one very imprtant thing, if I am going to change my life I need to start by changing my views on who is responsible for where I am today and that is ME, not my spouse or my parents or friends...ME!

This apporach reminds me of my health.  Recently I looked in the mirror and no longer liked what I saw.  Don't get me wrong, I am healthy and have a clean bill of health, but I saw room for improvement. I did not blame my parents for inheriting their genes, or my spouse...I realize that I am responsible for my cuurent level of fitness and health, just like what Dave Ramsey is talking about in regards to financial fitness.  In just a few short months of changing my daily habits / lifestyle and routines and going through some uncomfortable times I am seing GREAT results!  I have lost over 20 pounds in the last year and have more energy and I feel so much better than I have in years!  And my wife has really noticed the results as well...I have received more compliments on my appearance than ever before in life!

If I can can do it, so can you.  The first step is acknowledging who is responsible for your health....YOU!  You decide what to eat, if you should exercise, or should you go to the chiropractor or not.  Eery decision you make has a consequence, good or bad.  An apple, or a twinkie, work out or watch television...everything has a consequence.  The more good decisions I starting making the better my health got. I am sure the better decisions I choose to make financially the better of my wealth will be.  After all what is more important than your health?  Without it we have nothing except a pile of money and stuff and no way to enjoy it.

In 2012 I am going to make better decisions everyday, one day at a time.  I am going to continue to make great decisions about health and wellness but I will also have a better understanding about making the right decesions about building wealth.  How great would it to have abundant health and abundant wealth?  Life will be truly great!

Isn't it time you had a makeover?

Cold and Flu Season

Season two of the AMC television series "The Walking Dead" offices and filming are in Coweta County this year. What an honor to have the top rated television series here in our community! It has been exciting to see and hear about all the actors and which locations they are using. Never would I have expected myself to say, I've started watching the series.

It occured to me that if I were to describe myself on how I looked and felt when a cold and flu attacked would be as a "zombie" or "walking dead". For sure, I want to do all I can to avoid it - don't you? Whether we like it or not - cold and flu season is upon us. Here are some nutritional blockbusters that help fight colds and flu: garlic, water, vitamin C, zinc and beta carotene.

GARLIC: garlic won’t do much for your breath, but it helps prevent cold and flu viruses from invading and damaging your tissues. It bolsters your immune system.

WATER: prevents dehydration. Your body’s first defense system is the mucous membranes lining the upper respiratory tract and they work best when they are moist.

VITAMIN C: helps to shorten the length of time you suffer from symptoms of cold or flu. Good sources are: sweet red peppers, green peppers, strawberries, grapefruit, lemons, limes, and cantaloupe.

ZINC: getting enough of this mineral may help reduce your risk of infection caused by bacteria and viruses. Sources: turkey, shellfish, beans, barley, and wheat.

BETA CAROTENE: beta carotene converts into Vitamin A by your body and helps you to fight infections. Food sources: carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, kale, spinach, apricots, cantaloupe, mangoes, and broccoli.

Combine these sources with regular adjustments from Dr. Jason, add as little as 10 minutes a day of exercise and it'll be like you are wearing an extra protective armor! Then maybe you can avoid feeling like you are "Walking Dead" or a "Zombie" this season.

Here's to a healthy you!

The Magic Bullet

If there was a way you could lower your blood pressure, lose weight, lower your risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, improve your memory and other cognitive abilities and improve your overall quality of life, would you be interested? You only have to take this once per day, and it does not have any side effects!

Are you still interested?

The Magic Bullet...EXERCISE!! The question I pose to you is how important is exercise for your health?? Is it important enough to MAKE time in your daily schedule to do it? Absolutely!

Our health and overall quality of life is a result of everything we do, or DON'T do! In a time of "quick fixes" for our ailments we lose value in the essentials for healthly living and the power of prevention and exercise is one of the essential ingredients to a healthy life!

How important is food, water and breathing to your health? Very important! Exercise is one of the essentials in our daily lives, it is as important as food, water and breathing! Our brain and our bodies require activity on a daily basis to be healthy. One of the biggest components to exercise is movement and as a chiropractor one of the biggest benefits of an adjustment is to restore normal alignment and movement to the spine. We need to move every part of our body each and everyday! The most important thing is to make exercise fun so you stay consistent! When working out seems like WORK, you are less likely to do it.

So MAKE the time to go exercise! Stay tuned to find out what are the best ways to stay healthy.

Advanced Chiropractic To Sponsor Food Drive To Benefit The Community

November 1st through November 21st Advanced Chiropractic will be sponsoring a food drive to benefit Bridging The Gap of Newnan.  Bridging The Gap is a community outreach non-profit organization that distributes food to those in need. They began their program in September, 2009 and currently feed up to 1000 people a week.  “My plans are to continue working to inspire a healthier community”, states Dr. Jason Bailey - the new  proprietor of ADVANCED CHIROPRACTIC and MASSAGE WORKS practice that is located in historic downtown Newnan at 35 Jackson Street.   Although not new to the patients and staff, Dr. Jason has worked in the practice for the past five years. After graduating from Life University in December 2003, Dr.  Jason has dedicated his career to studying and understanding what it takes to be healthy.  He travels thousands of miles each year to learn the latest in health and wellness from the top researchers around the world.  His primary approach in practice is to look to the structural imbalances associated with posture that interfere with the body’s normal function that lead a person to a breakdown in their health.  Dr. Jason is proficient in Chiropractic Bio-Physics (CBP) a technique that is not only the most scientific and reliable technique in chiropractic today but is also the most widely  researched technique in the profession today.   To share his knowledge of health and wellness, Dr. Jason has lectured to thousands of different people in his career, from high school to college students and from churches and ministries to corporations around the Atlanta area. The underlying message of each lecture he delivers is that everybody was born to be healthy and with Chiropractic and healthy living  everybody can reach their God given potential.  With this message - it makes it a perfect match to sponsor a food drive for Bridging The Gap and support such a needed effort in our community.  Dr. Jason also is a sponsor of Powers’ Crossroads Festival which also gives back to the community through five non-profit organizations.

Stop by the office and meet Dr. Jason and welcome him to Newnan!  And as you make plans to stop by the office, please bring your canned items and help “Bridge The Gap”.  Suggested items include:  canned good items such as fruits, vegetables and meats; boxed food items such as macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes; non-perishable items such as cleaning products;  and toiletries such as soaps, toothpaste, toothbrushes.  The items will be taken to Bridging The Gap on November 22nd.
